173 Drummond Street, Spenceville, Old Ottawa East

A long, narrow house on a long, narrow lot, the Directories suggest that  #173 was built within the same 1901-1908 time-frame as many of its neighbours, yet our photo shows something of a later vintage.

While Goad 1912 shows a small wooden worker's cottage set well back from the road, this  structure, easily twice as large as the original, embraces bungalow styling and sits on a comically high concrete foundation. A newspaper want-ad from July 1931 gives us an idea of the rebuild date.
