Car Culture, 1926

So many fun details here — the art-work is brilliant.

It's 1926 and Ottawa is still small enough that shops and serviced don't bother to publish their addresses in newspaper ads. The Westboro Garage. It's in WESTBORO. Oh yeah, I know EXACTLY where that is.

I'm intrigued to see the "Sherwood" (74-) exchange being used in the (then deep) west end. When I was kid in the '50s, we had a Sherwood number in Cardinal Heights, so far to the east it wasn't yet part of Ottawa either.

One of the delightful things I've noticed about so many car-related ads from this time period is the depiction of a woman driver — squint and check out the cloche hat! I'm not much of a car person, but that thing she's driving sure does remind me of the 1926 Lincoln Model L, the "collapsable cabriolet."
