87 Fourth Avenue, the Glebe, Ottawa

This is one of the very first houses built on Fourth Avenue. The 1893-'94 directory tells us that Fourth was not yet built on, while the '95-'96 lists a meagre handful of homes, including that of Samuel Brouse, a carpenter, at #87.

Goad 1912 show the property thus (highlighted yellow.)

Note the small brick-veneered 2½-storey front section, with a narrower 1½-storey wooden midsection reaching back to a shed and a stable, the whole arrangement creating somewhat of a courtyard. Aerial photos show that the midsection has been renovated over the years while the shed and stable are long gone, making room for a cozy back garden.
