47 Clegg, Spenceville, Old Ottawa East

I don't have a build-date for this house, but it does appear on Goad's sheet 162 from 1912. Or at least an early version is depicted.

Our photo shows a 1½-storey pitched-roof BV with unusually dappled brickwork. Goad shows (red arrow) a small, wooden house with 2 full storeys, implying a flat roof.

Aerial photos show the present roof in place at least as far back as 1958 (the 1928 image is indecipherable.) Why? was there a fire? Apparently there was. This from the Ottawa Journal, June 21 1918.

While this would explain the new roof, it doesn't tell us how much of the house was rebuilt, or when the unusual brickwork was added. But it's a start.
