40 the Driveway, the Lamplighter Apartments, Golden Triangle

Forty the Driveway (now Queen Elizabeth Driveway), The Lamplighter, was completed in 1972. Ads first appeared in July of that year.

Ottawa Citizen, 1972-07-25

The building occupies an entire block, one of three in the Triangle that were demolished as part of a program of urban renewal / slum clearance enacted in the early to mid-1960s throughout the city.

In this 1958 aerial, we can see houses on the block that would become the apartment tower at 20 Driveway highlighted in red and those that would make way for the  Lamplighter coloured blue. The yellow building is the Capital Moving and Storage Co. warehouse. It would be demolished and replaced by the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) headquarters.

From the ground, the original building looked like this —

In the 1990s, a row of townhouses (Cornerstone Private) would be shoehorned into the parking lot on the far side of the building. The three pine-trees in the foreground stand to this day, a bit taller than we see them here. Notice that ground to the left of the image is lower than that on right. This depression marks the remains of Neville's Creek, which ran into the Canal from the west — I've marked its former course in green on aerial view, though it was somewhat wider in spots.

Do take the time to read Urbsite's lovingly detailed history of "The Bend in the Deep Cut" here.
